What We'll Cover
MARKETING FOR WRITERS COURSE OVERVIEW
Across six sessions, here's what you'll learn, explore and leave with:
Understanding Your Audience
You can't reach your readers if you don't know who they are.
Before we look at platforms or tactics that can support your practice, we're going to start with the most important question - who are you writing for, and why would they connect with your work? In this session, we'll look at how writers define their audience, where readers discover new work, and how that shapes the connections you need to build.
Your Presence Online
Once you know who your readers are, you need to know where to find them.
In this session, we'll look at all of the spaces available to you, from your own website to social media to newsletters. They don't all need to exist yet, but understanding how readers move between them, and how to make controlling that journey easy, is where everything else starts to fall into place.
Presenting Your Work
How you talk about your writing matters just as much as the writing itself.
In this session, we'll look at how to present your work to different audiences. How do you describe what you write in a way that makes people want to read it? How do you share updates and invite your audience in without it feeling like a sales pitch?
Building Your Audience
Social media followers are borrowed, but your reader list is yours.
A direct connection with your readers is one of the most valuable things you can build as a writer. In this session, we'll explore how to grow a reader list legally, how newsletters work, why they matter, and how to write them in a way that keeps readers engaged.
Promotions, Launches & Income Streams
Great work deserves to find its audience, and to generate a return.
In this session, we'll map out a full promotional campaign from first hint to post-launch, so you have a clear and repeatable process for getting your work in front of readers. We'll also look at the income streams available to writers beyond book sales, and how to build them into your practice.
Session Six:
Building a Sustainable Practice
Marketing works best when it fits around your writing, not the other way around.
In the final session, we'll look at how to build simple habits that keep your marketing ticking over without eating into your writing time. We'll explore automations that do the heavy lifting, how to batch your content so you're not starting from scratch every week, and how to evolve your approach.
The Final Portfolio
From the very first session, we'll be working on a portfolio of marketing materials that you'll submit ahead of your 1:1 session. This way, you have something tangible you can continue to work with.
1:1 Session
At the end of this marketing course, you'll be offered a 1:1 session to talk through anything you're hoping to achieve, anything you're finding challenging, or any next steps you want to take, as well as your final project.
